Drop the Charges Against the Dolores Park Youth

The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, a national civil rights organization with offices in Washington, DC, and the Bay Area, is calling for San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins to definitively drop all charges against the 113 youth arrested near Dolores Park on July 8, 2023. That night, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) deployed more than 100 officers to kettle, trap, and arrest children as young as 12. The youth never had a chance to leave before being trapped between police lines. The police then detained all those 13 and up, outdoors on a cold windy night, until the wee hours of the morning, without access to bathrooms and without notifying their parents. The purpose of the abusive detention appears to have been to obtain mugshots and thumbprints to use against the children; now DA Brooke Jenkins has affirmed that despite the lack of a lawful basis for the mass arrest, SFPD is using the identifying information to investigate and try to match youth up with other offenses.
